Struggling with Guilt?

1 Feb

For the past several weeks, the staff here has been watching the Basic Seminar. Mr Gothard was in the Northwoods for a period of weeks this past January to spend time to seeking God, fasting, and writing. Then the dad’s conference was held in Indy this past weekend. So we have not had our normal teaching times in staff meetings each morning.

However, watching the Basic Seminar has been a blessing. Many of the important truths and principles can be so easily forgotten and it’s great to set aside time to confirm them once again in our hearts.

This morning, the topic of meditation was covered as well as “Picturing Spiritual Consequences of Sin”. Do you often struggle with guilt over things of the past? Even if this “thing” has been confessed and you are living in victory, you can still struggle with the “circle of regret”. We constantly struggle with “IF ONLY”. Satan wants to keep us bound by this circle. Because once he has us in its tight grips, he will most definitely have victories in our future.

So what are we to do in order to experience freedom from the Circle of Regret?

1. Accept the fact that I’m worthy of death. (Ex. 18:20) We’ve sinned against a holy God and we all deserve death. We must agree with God and stop making excuses for ourselves realizing that our heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked.

2. Visualize how your sin killed Christ. (Is. 53:5) It is our sins that nailed him to the cross. He was wounded and beaten on our behalf that we might be healed and freed.

3. Realize that God used Christ’s payment for your sin. (Rom. 5:8) Despite how awful and wicked we may have been, God loved us anyway. He loved us so much that He was willing to do what it takes to save us form our sin and give us the gift of intimate, personal fellowship with Him.

4. Be cleansed and redeemed with Christ’s blood. (1 Pet. 1:18-19) Ask for cleansing and a washing by His Word. As His Word gushes forth in our hearts, we will be free and clean with no mark, stain, spot, or blemish. He will see us as we are – covered in the blood of Christ.

Don’t run in circles bound by regrets! Begin to experience freedom this moment in the name and power ofJesus Christ! Put a smile on your face knowing that the past is covered and victory is available for each new day and in every single circumstance!

Soli deo Gloria!

Thanks for posting these reminders Sara! I was just journaling about some “if only” situations last night and feeling discouraged and guilty. This is just what I needed to read today.
