Pics from Romania

14 May

What a special and unforgettable time it was to travel halfway around the world to Romania! It was a very long flight, to say the least, and definitely something I have not been accustomed to. We left the Chicago airport and travelled through the night to Zurich, Switzerland. By the time midnight rolled around, I was ready to jump out of my skin – but I made it! 🙂  Around two in the morning, they started serving breakfast because of the time change – it was so funny! It was awesome to see the Swiss Alps or to know that we were flying over Paris! We then had another 1 1/2 hour flight to Hungary and then once we landed enjoyed a 4 hour ride through the beautiful country side to Oradea, Romania.

What a prosperous, blessed, and overwhelming time we had in Romania! We were showered by the kindness of the people and dignitaries we spent time with throughout the course of the week.  We were literally treated like royalty with special dinners, flowers, gifts, tours of the city and town hall, etc.

A  highlight of the trip for me was teaching character in the schools. We had two opportunities to go into the school room to share truth and our love for Jesus. The first school we shared at had more restrictions. We couldn’t necessarily talk much about the Lord or religion but as the children were asking questions about America we were able to share personal testimonies and evidences of the Lord working in our lives. The second school gave us much more liberty. I was in a group with Mr. Gothard and two friends of mine and we were able to share personal testimonies of what God has taught us in life. It was a privilege to be able to share with the students (9th grade) how God has transformed our lives and attitudes through various circumstances in the past. The teacher along with the students seemed touched that we shared personal stories as the Romanian people are more private and do not share among friends and sometimes even families.

We also had the privilege to visit an orphanage and enjoyed a fantastic meal and a time of fellowship and music afterwards.
