Even in the Valley, God is Good

15 Apr

Isaiah 63:9, “In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.”

We are safest abiding in the shadow of His wings. Trials, struggles, and hardships may blow heavy upon us or those whom we love; yet, there is not one thing that we feel that our Lord Himself cannot feel. In all ways, He was afflicted just like us.

Being a child of God does not promise a life of sheer happiness and ease. Actually, it often times presents the opposite. We look through Hebrews chapter 11 and come to find that many who have whole-heartedly followed their Lord have suffered. We see many are tormented, destitute, afflicted, mocked, and persecuted for righteousness’ sake. We are often times called to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. We may pass through the fire, spiritually or physically, yet it is His ever-abiding presence from day to day that gets us through. Time spent with our Saviour on our knees crying out for His mercy, time spent reading His Word and allowing it to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, time spent ministering to the needs of others, time spent in solitude seeking His face: these are the things that help us pass through the troubled waters that have gone beyond the ankles and knees and are rising still.

We may not be able to feel it at this present moment, but we will be able to look back and see that even though we have passed through the valley of trouble, fear, and pain God has been good. His righteousness endured; His loving kindness was ever present; and His care was manifested. He may be using this time of hardship to remove the dross and filthiness of this world from our lives or He may be allowing it for the sole purpose for His glory and the benefit of those around us. Whatever the purpose may be, we must keep our sights looking heavenward during difficulties. We cannot doubt that He hears our cries. We must be determined and steadfast in knowing that the reproaches of Christ are greater riches than the treasures of this world (Hebrews 11:26).

We will pass through these waters and when we do how glorious it will be. We will know more of God and understand more of His love for us than we would have ever been able to experience. We will know more of what it is to lean completely on Him trusting Him with our everything.

He is faithful and He will continue to be every day of our lives. He will bare us and carry us through!

How wonderful our Lord is!

You really do not know just how much that I needed this encouragement. Please keep me and my family in prayers. Pray for the Angotti/Saunders family. God knows what we need before we ask but I am asking all prayer warriors to pray for us! Thank you 🙂
